Plato
Studies:
How
To Read A Platonic Dialogue
This section will be added to soon, to give a full elucidation of the
topic.
This
has to do with going beyond the functional interpretation of Plato's
Dialogues to a functional experiential way
of participatory reading of them. (See A
Practical "Functional" View of Socratic Dialogue, in the
Introductions section, for a discussion of these.)
This
applies the in-depth
bodily
felt-sense
experiencing that is
learned in DEPTH Dialogue to reading. This allows you to go into the
deep essential meaning of any text that has such a depth, and interact
with that essence at that depth.
This
is most appropriate with Plato's Dialogues, because they not only
have that essential depth but they are living exemplars of DEPTH
Dialogue in action, and the only way to get into a real dialogue with
that deep essence of the Dialectic is through the kind of DEPTH
Dialogue reading that is being presented here.
So,
this is an entirely new and extremely radical way of reading any
text, and Plato in particular. It is a way of reading that can
yield the same kind of dynamic creative breakthroughs in understanding
an author as DEPTH Dialogue provides on a regular basis in personal
sessions.
Having dynamic creative breakthroughs with the original texts of
Dialectic is the same as participating in dialogues with Socrates and
Plato themselves. You touch into the inner life that they are
conveying, interact with that inner life in deep dialogue, and are
transformed in that dialogue because you are, for all intents and
purposes, having a deep loving friendship dialogue with Socrates and
Plato.
When you read in depth, as presented here, you touch into the true
spirit of the author, and let that spirit touch you in deeply. This is
way beyond reading. It is a bringing to life, a soul-birth, of both the
spirit of what you are reading and of your own deep feeling life that
is interacting with that spirit.
DEPTH Dialogue shows you how to do this kind of reading in depth. This
will be presented here soon.
