1. Ancient Wisdom

DEPTH Dialogue is a revival of the ancient practice of deep inner Socratic Dialogue.  It is the practice of the true original meaning of Philosophy.

The meaning of Philosophy comes from two ancient Greek words.

Philo means Love;  Sophia means Wisdom.

Philo-Sophia, Philosophy, then, is Love of Wisdom.

But what is the Wisdom that Philosophy loves?

In terms of Socrates' pursuit of Wisdom it is that which makes a person truly happy. He says that nothing short of that could honestly be called Wisdom.

The topics in this section go into detail about the various central aspects of this Socratic Wisdom.

As you read the explanations in the topics that follow please keep in mind that even though they come from direct realization and not from belief, they refer to a practice, not a metaphysics. This means that they are not statements about how things are in some ultimate sense but indications of how something is done (namely, the practice of DEPTH Dialogue.) Just as the Shinto priest, when asked about the theology of his religion, said "We have no theology, we just dance," so in DEPTH Dialogue, we have no philosophy, no belief system, we just dialogue with one another, we just do the dance of life together. The Wisdom is in the dance, not in the words. Or, in this case here and now, in the dance of the words, in the dance of your experience while reading the words.
