What It Is
Real true change in self and relationships takes place only by contacting deep feelings inside yourself. We are all motivated and moved by our emotions. All of your experiences - at least the ones that form your life - are full of emotions. Your deepest, truest emotions are what give animation and "juice" to your life. Finding the place of these deepest feelings in you, and then exploring that territory, is the way to get deep, real change for the better in your life and relationships.
So, these practices work with emotions, but not superficial emotions, not the stuff of everyday moods or ups and downs. Rather, we look to find and then repattern the deeper layer of feelings. It is your truest, deepest feelings that we contact. Deep-feeling communication comes, obviously, from your deep feelings. This is the stuff of these practices.
The Key To Deep Experiential Change
All emotions are rooted in the physiology of the body. You feel sensations of your emotions in your body. This is where your emotions actually happen.
You need go no further in search of how to bring about deep experiential change.
You are able to experience your bodily physiology directly, and change it and your emotions from that place. You do that by putting your attention on the sensations of your emotions in your body. It is just a matter of where you put your attention and how you use your attention in that place.
What Works
As explained later in the section on Focusing, research has shown that putting your attention on your bodily sensations (your physiology) is the only factor that produces real psychological, emotional and experiential change. All other factors proved to be non-essential.
These practices keep the essential and throws out what isn't important and what doesn't work. Focusing on your bodily sensations is the key to what works.
This is where your emotions really are, and that is where we work. And working there brings about profound changes in the whole field of your experiencing.
Breakthrough Discoveries
Breakthrough discoveries of the last 50 years or so have shown stunning effectiveness by working directly with attention, sensations and physiology. This is a whole new field of "somatics" (sometimes also called "psycho-somatics.") These practices, as demonstrated throughout this website, are based on the practical application of these stunning breakthrough discoveries, now applied to the whole field of life.
Results that were thought impossible have been produced easily and quickly by somatics in the field of body therapy. This is now the case for the whole range of human experiences using the new psychological transformation practices.
Repatterning
The essential breakthrough discovery in the field of somatics is what is called repatterning.
Focusing shows you where to put your attention. Repatterning shows you how to use your attention when you put it there.
Repatterning is a way of getting down below the outer appearances of experiences, conditions, etc. to the underlying patterns that form these. When you get to that level, change is a lot easier and more efficient than trying to force the outer levels.
Instead of trying to change, fix, heal, work through, reprogram or oppose painful conditions, repatterning works in a subtle and indirect way to bring about restructuring of the most basic elements of your inner world that form those experiences. The outer appearances then just spontaneously adjust to this new inner structure. Painful conditions then just seem to disappear.
Details on this are explained in the section on Repatterning.
Stunning Breakthroughs For Deep Lasting Changes
When you put Focusing and Repatterning together, and apply them to the whole field of life and relationships, you have a completely new perspective on things and an entirely new way of working. That way of working, in fact, goes so far beyond the old ways (of counseling and psychotherapy, mediation and arbitration, etc.) that those old ways are now obsolete.
Now that you can efficiently and easily change the deep levels of experiencing, the possibilities for change expand tremendously. These practices work right in the physiology of the deep emotions, through focusing on bodily sensations. And it works with the skill and efficiency of repatterning the deep inner levels where experiences are formed. These two factors working together bring about stunning and quick changes that have not even been dreamed of until now.
When you know where to go and what to do, in any field, that makes your work easy and efficient. That is what deep experiential change is now, using deep psychological transformation practices.
The rest of this site goes into detail about what this is and how to do it.
